I've always suspected this, but this post confirms it: if you just open iMovie projects as packages in the Finder and drop the .MOV media files in to the Media folder, they will be instantly usable instead of having to wait hours for iMovie to import them.

This should make the creation of CBTs with iShowU for work much easier. Here's a nice tutorial of bringing iShowU files in to iMovie for screencasting.
